The idea
The project for major technological innovation in the steelmaking sector, based on Giovanni Arvedi’s innovative ideas together with the experience of casting and rolling plant manufacturers then developed by Arvedi technical staff as a new plant concept, came to maturation at the end of the 1980s.
This new technology, called ISP (In-line Strip Production), patented in the major industrialised countries and now 100% owned by Arvedi, came into being with the aim of building a casting and rolling plant that was technically and economically efficient and of limited size aimed at the manufacture of thin gauge quality hot rolled coils; it is the fruit of experience and takes into account the operational requirements of the Group’s leading companies in the distribution sector and in the production of welded tubes aimed at the quality product market and for the production of steel slabs. This technology allows a new works model to be realised for the production of flat rolled steel with a much more compact lay-out that is characterised by its efficiency, manageability, flexibility, product quality, ergonomic design and environmental compatibility deriving from its smaller overall size and above all low energy consumption.
In 2009 production started on the new plant based on Arvedi ESP (Endless Strip Production) technology, a direct evolution of the earlier ISP technology, which realises an epoch-making innovation: the continuous cast-rolling process.
