Biodiversity Policy

Biodiversity, or biological diversity, is defined by the UN Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 (Article 2 of the Convention on Biological Diversity) as "all variability among living organisms, including, inter alia, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part; it includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems".

The EU and its Member States are committed to putting biodiversity on the path to recovery by 2030. The EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 is the cornerstone of nature protection in the EU and is a key element of the European Green Deal.

Biodiversity is essential for humans as well as for the protection of the environment and climate. It maintains the balance of nature by providing people with water and food; it contributes to counteract climate change and prevents the spread of infectious diseases.

The Arvedi Group intends to follow a path of biodiversity protection that follows the European direction of the 2030 Agenda and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and will continue to pursue the objective of halting and reversing the process of biodiversity loss by 2030:

  • promoting awareness among workers and stakeholders about the enhancement and conservation of biodiversity as well as the responsible use of natural resources;
  • transparently communicating the impacts, risks and opportunities on biodiversity for operational activities, the value chain and supplies, defining objectives and targets on priority issues;
  • applying the principle of "Do No Harm" in the various design phases related to the construction of new production plants, avoiding impacts on areas of high biodiversity value and on ecosystems by limiting any type of deforestation and the transformation of habitats; where this is not possible the Arvedi Group works to minimize negative impacts, we implement restoration measures, and as a last option, we compensate for residual impacts;
  • promoting and financing reforestation and forest preservation projects also in third countries on a voluntary basis, in order to offset its residual emissions;
  • in the event of residual impacts in the development of new projects, IL GRUPPO ARVEDI undertakes to support the principles of "No net loss of biodiversity", "No Net Deforestation" and, if applicable, "Net improvement" approaches involving customers, suppliers and any other stakeholders, generally aiming to obtain a net positive impact on biodiversity in the sites affected by its action.
