Arvedi Group: historical change of governance

In a long and thorough interview published on L’economia of Corriere della Sera, Giovanni Arvedi, founder and president of the Group, announced a historical change of governance and the beginning of a succession handover in the name of continuity that will strengthen the responsibilities of the CEO Mario Caldonazzo and, for the first time, will open the Board of Directors to external members.
The strengthening of Mario Caldonazzo’s responsibilities
The succession handover will occur gradually and involve managers who have long been working on the front line together with President Giovanni Arvedi and CEO Mario Caldonazzo. The first step of the transition, which has already been approved, is the strengthening of Mario Caldonazzo’s responsibilities. He will lead the company through the structural challenges that the European steel industry is facing: digitization, sustainability and circular economy. He will do it coherently with Arvedi’s style: the strong will to merge technological innovation with the needs of sustainability. He will do it getting young generations involved, investing on education, in order to take advantage of their energy, dreams and visions.
The words of the president Giovanni Arvedi in the interview made it clear:
We need young people, without their ideas, skills and dreams we are unfit to creatively face the enterprise's development.
Welcoming new members into the Board of Directors
In the interview, the President announced another important news. Three new independent members joined the Board of Directors, which is now composed of Giovanni Arvedi, president, Mario Caldonazzo, CEO, Massimo Polli, CFO, Fabio Baldrighi, commercial director, and three experts: Claudio Costamagna, past president of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti; Marco Mangiagalli, former member of the Surveillance Board of Intesa San Paolo; Carlo Mapelli, professor at Politecnico of Milan.
